4.0 out of 5 stars Ghetto Blaster for the 21st Century One Notch Short of Perfect, January 11, 2012

Just as another buyer posted in his review (G37x), I too bought my Sony RDH-GTK1i at my local Sam's Club for a mere $149. I must say, you get what you pay for, which truly isn't bad, but it's not superlatively great either. I bought this all-in-one system to replace my old AIWA shelf stereo system that was going on nearly 20 years (my gosh, I can't believe I had that thing for so long!). Nearly half of the features were broken on the old system and it had no USB/iPod support or the ability to play MP3s/iTunes, so I was painfully due for a new system.

The primary reason I went for this system was the fact that A.) it's one solid piece: I have a very destructive cat who likes to chew thin wires (the stringier, the better). Something with "chew proof" speakers that aren't battery operated satellites (I hate the idea of having to replace batteries all the time) appealed to me. B.) The unit must have a USB port. Nothing against Apple devotees out there, but I simply do not own... Read more

This boom box totally rocks, and the sound is phenomenal. I had this on my wish list for a short time before finding an Amazon vendor that had it listed at more than a $100 off the retail price of $249 and that included shipping. According to the manual the unit is rated at 35 watts/channel @ 6 ohms and peaking at 110 watts per channel for an astonishing, room filling, wall shaking party machine. You will NOT be disappointed.
There is an option to turn the light show on/off (there are blue/red LED lights in the speakers that beat to your music.) There is NO CD but you can play songs from a USB stick, dock your IPOD or connect a CD/MD player to the AUX jack in the rear of the unit. It does have a AM/FM radio built in. If it has a option for batteries then I cannot find the compartment, besides batteries would make this thing EXTRA HEAVY and probably would not last long. Build quality is excellent, seems quite solid and there is no vibration from the cabinet when you have the music... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Boom badoom boom boom badoom boom bass (he got that super bass), August 13, 2011
This review is from: Sony Muteki RDH-GTK1i Mini Hi-Fi System (Electronics)
First off, this baby is HUGE - huge as in bigger than you can imagine and packing a lot of heat. The main selling point here -in my opinion- is the color enhanced speakers that change from blue to red to pink, which sets it apart from its competitors. There's no CD option available, however, in today's day and age that's not really a problem seeing as CDs are nearly a thing of the past. The bass is big and loud, but the Function options (ie, Techno, Jazz, etc. that varies the sound itself coming from the speakers) really provides so many options with only minute varying differences they're almost obsolete. For the price too, the missing iPod adapter piece is disappointing due to how small and cheap it is. Overall, Sony's RDH-GTK1i is a great boom box that's a little heavier than any boom box you've likely ever owned and big enough to fill any room in a house.
